John 11:41-42 New International Version (NIV)
41 So they took away the stone. Then Jesus looked up and said, “Father, I thank you that you have heard me. 42 I knew that you always hear me, but I said this for the benefit of the people standing here, that they may believe that you sent me.”
This is an example of how Jesus prayed publicly. There aren’t many examples of His public prayer life other than blessing food. But, I believe that when, and if, Jesus felt the need for public prayer, there was a reason behind it. He gave His reason for public prayer in this instance….it was so that “THEY” may believe that He was sent by God. He prayed, “Father, forgive them for they know not what they do.” from the cross, so He wasn’t afforded an opportunity to pray privately in that case.
My point is that Jesus was the perfect example of what we should be. He prayed simply and with a purpose and He asked us to do the same. He LIVED simply and with a purpose, just as we should.
Everything we do should be to the glory of God, and our prayers should be a direct conversation from our hearts to the heart of God
