The Power of Words

Our words are powerful things. They can hurt, they can comfort, they can warn, they can create beautiful mental images, they can convey instructions that translate into physical reality. They can save and they can cause devastation.

That’s what our words can do.

Now, compare that to God’s words. God said, “Let there be…” And there was, and it was good. God said, ” I Am” and He is and always will be. God’s word is simple and true.

But as simple as it is,  His word speaks creation into being, where our words are inadequate to even describe creation. His word, like a double edged sword, separates the faithful from the wicked while our words too often serve only to separate us from each other and from God.

When I think about how God spoke the universe into existence, I can’t comprehend how big God is. And when I think about how God also spoke particles smaller than the atom into existence, I realize that God’s “smallness” is as important to me as His “greatness”. It’s in His greatness that all creation sings His glory, but in His smallness I find my Father and the lover of my soul.

God’s Word is alive, it’s literally food for our soul. His Word is our bread and it becomes part of us when we eat it. The prophet, Jeremiah, said in the 15th chapter, 16th verse, “Your words were found, and I ate them, and your words became to me a joy and the delight of my heart, for I am called by your name, O LORD, God of hosts.

God’s word is real! God’s word is alive! John tells us that The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us. Jesus is the word of God!  Can you imagine the power and the sovereignty of our God’s word?

If you haven’t looked in your bible lately, please pick it back up and read it for yourself. Don’t just be spoon-fed a little milk….open the book and begin for yourself,  to eat the bread that is waiting inside.  That’s where you can find God’s words and His will for your life.
